REPORT OF INTERSPECIALTY SOCIETY COMMITTEE
CM-IS Report 2-A-06
Subject: Expansion of Role of Chiropractics
Presented by: Michelle A. Berger, MD, Chair
Referred to: Reference Committee on Financial and Organizational Affairs
A delegate to the committee who is a neurologist stated that doctors of chiropractic medicine are attempting to expand their scope of practice, specifically allowing them to perform needle EMGs. The Texas Board of Chiropractic Examiners has written rules in an effort to expand its scope through the regulatory process since its previous endeavor to get change through legislation was not productive.
Recommendation : That the Texas Medical Association Council on Legislation oppose the Texas Board of Chiropractice Examiners attempt to expand its scope of practice and that TMA reflect this during the official comment period.
