County medical societies have nominated the following physicians to honorary membership in the Texas Medical Association. These nominations have been approved by the Board of Councilors and are submitted for approval by the House of Delegates.
District 3: Lubbock-Crosby-Garza County Medical Society
Barbara H. Way, MD-Member of TMA 33 years. Past president, president-elect, vice president, secretary of Lubbock-Crosby-Garza County Medical Society. Served as delegate to TMA. Member of Lubbock-Crosby-Garza County Medical Society School and Public Health Committee, Emergency Medical Services Coordinating Committee, Executive Committee, Ad Hoc Committee for Handling of Recession/Depressed Patients, Board of Censors, Finance Committee, Public Relations Committee, Liaison with Texas Tech University Health Science Center Committee, Legislative Committee, and Nominating Committee. Served as chair of Ad Hoc Bylaws Committee and Hippocratic Award Committee of Lubbock-Crosby-Garza County Medical Society. Served as member of Texas Medical Association's Committee on Sexually Transmitted Diseases, Council on Public Health, Board of Councilors, and Texas Medical Association Insurance Trust Advisory Committee. Served as chair of TMA Reference Committee on Financial and Organizational Affairs. Is member of Texas Medical Board Expert Physicians Panel. Member of American Academy of Dermatology, American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, Society for Pediatric Dermatology, Texas Dermatological Society, Women's Dermatologic Society, and American Contact Dermatitis Society. Founder and Director of Dermatology Resident Training Program for Department of Dermatology for Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, Lubbock. Awards include Fellowship for Pathology Preceptorship from American College of Pathologists, named one of "The Best Doctors in America" and "Best Dermatologist in Lubbock." Authored numerous articles. Presented numerous articles at scientific meetings. Retired from active practice.
District 6: Nueces County Medical Society
Robert M. Dulaney, MD-Member of TMA 38 years. Past president of Nueces County Medical Society. Served as president of Texas Pediatric Society. Member of American Academy of Pediatrics, Texas Pediatric Society, and Corpus Christi Pediatric Society. Past chief of pediatrics at Memorial and Spohn Hospitals in Corpus Christi. Elected twice to Chief of Staff at Driscoll Children's Hospital in Corpus Christi. Retired from active practice.
District 9: Harris County Medical Society
Clarence P. Alfrey, Jr., MD-TMA member 41 years. Past president of Harris County Medical Society. Delegate to TMA from Harris County Medical Society. Past chair of Harris County Medical Society's Public Relations Advisory Council and the society's Budget Committee. Past president of Houston Society of Internal Medicine. Past president of John P. McGovern Museum of Health & Medical Science. Served as medical director of Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center and Baylor College of Medicine Ambulatory Clinic. Member of American Association of Blood Banks, American Society of Hematology, American College of Physicians, International Society of Hematology, Central Society for Clinical Research, Texas Club of Internists and South Central Association of Blood Banks. Fellow of American College of Physicians. Received the Jeffries Medical Research Award from the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics. Authored numerous articles. Retired from active practice.
Charles Berry, MD-Member of TMA 42 years. Served on the Harris County Medical Society's Public Service and Communications Committee, Smoking Cessation Committee, Citizens Concerned about American's Health Care Committee, and Houston Chamber of Commerce Health Committee. Served as Chief of Flight Medicine for U.S. Air Force Surgeon General's Office. Served as director of NASA Medical Research and Operations and Life Sciences. Past president of The University of Texas Health Science Center. Founder and past president of national Foundation for Prevention of Diseases. Served on Board of Directors of Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center, American Health Association, and Joslin Diabetes Foundation. Served as medical director of The Houstonian Foundation. Member of Aerospace Medical Association, American College of Preventive Medicine, American Public Health Association, and Societies of USAF Flight Surgeons and NASA Flight Surgeons. Awards include but not limited to: Arnold D. Tuttle Award of the Aerospace Medical Association, USAF Certificate of Achievement by the Surgeon General, Certificate Team member launch of 1st U.S. manned orbital flight, Special Aerospace Medicine Honor Citation from the AMA, John J. Montgomery Award of the Society of Aerospace Professionals, NASA Exceptional Service Medal, Hoyt S. Vandenberg Trophy of the Arnold Air Society, The Louis H. Bauer Founder Award of the Aerospace Medical Association, The Melbourne W. Boynton Award of the American Astronautical Society, NASA Apollo Achievement Award, Silver Medal for Distinguished Service of the Ministry of Health and Welfare, NASA Exceptional Scientific Achievement Medal, Presidential Medal of Freedom Award, NASA Distinguished Service Medal, and Commander Order of the Cedars Award from the President of Lebanon at Beirut. Fred Castrow II, MD-Member of TMA 37 years. Past president of Harris County Medical Society. Served as chair of Harris County Medical Society's Nominating Board and Board of Medical Legislation. Past member of Harris County Medical Society Public Grievance Committee and Strategic Planning Committee. Served as delegate to TMA and AMA. Past president of Houston Academy of Medicine. Served on Board of Directors for TEXPAC and AMPAC. Past president of Houston Dermatological Society and American Society for Dermatologic Surgery. District 14: Dallas County Medical Society
