On-the-Road, Internet, Home Study, and Videotape Courses
The committee offers 15 CME courses; all but one has been designated as ethics/professional responsibility education. The courses are available for presentation by regional education team members at county medical society, hospital medical staff, and other meetings. The courses also are available on the Internet and through home study, and "Physician Stress/Burnout" is available on videotape. During 2005, team members gave 44 presentations to 2,075 participants. Another 2,164 physicians completed the courses by Internet, home study, and videotape. This year, requests for presentations have been received from approximately 15 entities, and 325 physicians have completed PHR courses by Internet, home study, and videotape.
The committee developed three new courses in 2005: "Disruptive Behavior in Physicians," "Recognizing and Coping with Illnesses in the Aging Physician," and "The Family in Addiction and Recovery." Six one-hour courses were combined into three two-hour courses for the home study and Internet formats, and six courses were revised in 2005. Another six will be reviewed during 2006, and one new course on spirituality in medicine may be developed.
