There is a lot of misinformation about vaccines, so each month Texas Medicine magazine highlights a disease that can be prevented by childhood and adult immunizations.
The material is designed to help you talk to your patients about the severity of these diseases and to help them understand the benefits of vaccines.
In November, the magazine shined a light on pertussis, also known as whooping cough, a serious illness that can cause horrible coughing and breathing trouble.
A vaccine for the bacteria that causes pertussis was approved in 1914; since 1940 it has been combined with those for tetanus and diphtheria into what’s known as the DTaP.
Find more information about talking to your patients about pertussis, including a printable copy of the infographic below and a simple instructional video on the Texas Medical Association’s website.
