Generous donors are helping to bring outstanding speakers and critical education for physicians to lead the future of medicine through The Louis J. Goodman Lectureship on Leadership in Medicine. The lectureship honors Louis J. Goodman, PhD, who prior to his retirement in 2019 was CEO and executive vice president of TMA. Dr. Goodman passed away from a serious illness in 2020.
Speakers supported by the TMAF Louis J. Goodman Leadership in Medicine Fund are selected based on their contributions to the profession of medicine and on issues related to physician leadership in a dynamic, changing health care environment.
An extraordinary lead gift of $25,000 from Austin I. King, MD, Abilene, launched the fund. Dr. King, a TMA past president, offered to match donations dollar for dollar up to $25,000 and within weeks, more than 30 donors contributed $47,150. Additional donations have been since then and will amplify the impact of this fund.
Under the stewardship of the TMA Foundation Board of Trustees, the TMAF Leadership in Medicine Fund will grow over the years as we seek additional contributions to ensure that critical education and leadership development opportunities are available for Texas physicians and TMA.
