Physicians Benevolent Fund Bolstered by Ongoing TMAIT Gift Pledge

In an effort to support physician well-being, TMA Insurance Trust (TMAIT) has made another donation of $15,000 to The Physicians Benevolent Fund (PBF), fulfilling the second of its three-year pledge to help provide crucial assistance to physicians and their families during times of need.

TMAIT's donation will bolster the fund's ability to extend a helping hand to physicians in need, as PBF provides care and support to Texas physicians grappling with various difficulties, from falling on hard financial times to unexpected medical expenses to personal crises. PBF has three funds to support Texas physicians:

  • Physicians Benevolent Fund: Since 1961, physicians and their families have received more than $4.6 million in financial assistance to meet day-to-day needs following illness, accident, or other challenges.
  • PBF Disaster Relief Fund: When a natural disaster or catastrophic event strikes, the PBF Disaster Relief Fund aids physicians in rebuilding and restoring their medical practices. This fund is activated following qualifying federally declared natural disasters.
  • PBF Wellness Fund: This fund supports eligible Texas physicians in seeking treatment for depression, substance use, and other conditions that may affect their well-being. Additional funds may also be available to assist the physician’s family with expenses during the treatment period.

TMAIT is a longtime ally of PBF and previously completed a three-year pledge of $15,000 annually from 2021 to 2023.

If you know a physician or a physician's family who could use assistance, direct them to the PBF webpage for eligibility details and a confidential questionnaire, or contact PBF director Chris Johnson. TMA strives to protect the anonymity of fund recipients.

If you’d like to help sustain the fund to support physicians in need, contribute via a secure, online donation (member login required), or send a check to The Physicians Benevolent Fund, Attn: TMA Finance Department, 401 W. 15th St., Ste 100, Austin, TX 78701-1680. Contributions are tax-deductible to the full extent allowed by federal law.
