As the number of measles cases in Texas tops 200, Texas Medical Association members can quickly get up to speed on the state of the outbreak with insight from the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) and earn CME credit at a webinar Monday, March 17, at 5:30 pm CT.

Members can register to attend the webinar here. The event will include an overall situation update and information on measles lab testing, infection control precautions, and measles-mumps-rubella vaccine recommendations from public health experts.

The ongoing outbreak, originating in West Texas, has seen one child fatality. With separate, travel-related cases now confirmed in Houston, Austin, and North Texas, DSHS and TMA are co-presenting a session to:

  • Familiarize participants with the general principles of determining risk for contracting measles when engaging in various daily activities and in health care settings;
  • Teach strategies to lower risk for contracting measles; and
  • Outline recommendations on what to do if someone has been exposed to measles.

Emily Adhikari, MD, chair of TMA’s Committee on Infectious Diseases, will moderate the webinar, which will be eligible for 1 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ and 1 credit in ethics and/or professional responsibility.
